Let Me Show You Beautiful Things
April 18 – September 18, 2014

Opening Reception: Friday, April 18, 6:30–9:00pm

Chicago, IL – Nadia Janjua’s first solo show in Chicago, IL will be on view at the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) Headquarters at 2744 West 63rd Street from April 18 – September 18, 2014. The series, “Let Me Show You Beautiful Things” includes seven abstract paintings that blend an array of colors, three different paint mediums, and Arabic & English text to convey messages of the call for beauty as expressed in the Islamic faith. When we do what is beautiful, it is a gain to our own souls to conform to our own deepest nature. As it states in the Holy Qu’ran (17:7), “If you do what is beautiful, you do what is beautiful to your own souls, and if you do what is ugly, it is to them likewise.” God made all things beautiful, and this, precisely, is the source of inspiration from which the painting series arises.

Do what is beautiful. God loves those who do what is beautiful” (Holy Quran 2:195).

if you are in chicago, go see this! Nadia is so inspiring and her beautiful art is seriously amazing mashaAllah!

If you follow papachud (and you should!) you might remember that a little while ago he posted a memory related project with an invite to participate.  Photographs of people looking at analog prints.  What could be so difficult about that?

Because of her Alzheimer’s, the idea of photographing my grandmother looking at old prints tugged at my heart in many different ways.  I finally found both the strength and opportunity to take these photographs.  It is a struggle to find the right words, so I hope the photos will speak for themselves.
